4K iPad wallpapers

A 4K wallpaper is larger than every iPad screen, so it stays sharp on all of them. The 13 inch iPad Pro is 2064 x 2752 and the 11 inch iPad Pro is 1668 x 2420. The 13 inch iPad Air is 2048 x 2732, while the 11 inch iPad Air and the iPad (A16) share 1640 x 2360. The iPad mini is 1488 x 2266. Because an iPad turns, this page shows two kinds of files: phone wallpapers at 2160 x 3840 for portrait use, and desktop wallpapers at 3840 x 2160, some in 5K, for an iPad in a keyboard case. Desktop files download free on the website, and phone files unlock after a short optional ad in the app. A tip: iPadOS shows a different part of the picture in each orientation, so a subject in the centre survives rotation, while anything near an edge may be cut.

FAQ

What resolution is an iPad wallpaper?

It depends on the model: 2064 x 2752 on the 13 inch iPad Pro, 1668 x 2420 on the 11 inch iPad Pro, 2048 x 2732 on the 13 inch iPad Air, 1640 x 2360 on the 11 inch iPad Air and the iPad (A16), and 1488 x 2266 on the iPad mini. To cover landscape as well on the largest models, the image needs at least 2752 pixels on its short side.

Will a 4K wallpaper look sharp on iPad, or is it too big?

It looks sharp. A 2160 x 3840 phone file is wider than any iPad held upright, so iPadOS never enlarges it in portrait and only trims the top and bottom. For landscape, a 5K desktop file at 5120 x 2880 has a short side longer than the tallest iPad screen, so it stays crisp both ways.

How do I set a wallpaper on iPad?

Save the image to Photos, then open Settings > Wallpaper > Add New Wallpaper and choose Photos. Pick the file, pinch to frame it and tap Add. Rotate the iPad once afterwards to check the landscape view. Menu names can change a little between iPadOS versions.

Are the iPad wallpapers free?

Desktop wallpapers, including the 5K ones that suit landscape, download free on velpaper.com. Portrait phone wallpapers unlock in the Velpaper app for iPad after a short optional ad, and then you save the full 2160 x 3840 file. All of them are original designs by Carlos Vivero.
