On this page
A sunset beach wallpaper works on iPhone when the sun is small or out of frame, the colours are dusty peach and rose rather than hard orange, and the top fifth of the sky stays calm for the clock. Velpaper has 12 original sunset beach wallpapers, each 2160 by 3840 pixels and 0.2 to 1.7 MB: palms, wet sand, golden hour, blue hour and four pure sunset gradients. For a dark lock screen pick Palm Afterglow; for a light one, Butter Glow.
Eight are beach scenes in the style of film photography and four are colour only, the same light without a horizon. There is no text and no watermark in any file.

Palms and silhouettes
Palm fronds say beach without showing much beach. Against a warm sky they turn almost black, which gives the picture a dark anchor.
Palm Afterglow is one curved palm leaning in from the left over a mauve sky and a thin apricot horizon, with no sun in the frame. Palm Reverie mirrors it: two slender palms rise from the right edge under a dusty pink sky that warms to apricot at a smoky mauve sea. Coral Palms is the softest: two coconut palms on the left, peach light on lavender water and a single wave sliding over coral-toned sand.
Golden hour on the sand
Golden hour is the last hour before sunset, when the light comes in low and everything wet turns into a mirror. This is the warmest group, and the only one where the sun appears.
Last Golden Wave puts a small sun behind a low cloud band and lets a single wave catch peach gold on its crest. Peach Reflection is an empty beach with a pale amber sun just above the horizon and wet sand mirroring a lavender pink sky. Coral Tide looks down rather than out: coral light in shallow water and a tiny rocky island far off.
Blue hour, after the sun is gone
Blue hour follows. The warmth drains out of the sky from the top down, and what is left is lilac, violet and plum with a last peach line at the bottom. For evenings with rain instead of a sunset, see the rainy night wallpapers.
Lilac Shore is an empty shoreline with dusty lilac clouds and silvery water sliding over smooth sand. Violet Afterglow is a darker coastline: a dark headland, rippled violet water and dusty rose clouds. Plum Afterglow is the same moment with the scenery removed, aubergine at the top fading through dusty rose and peach to deep plum.
Sunset colour without a horizon
If you want the warmth but not the postcard, these gradients carry the beach palette with nothing to compete with icons or widgets. A sky with no hard lines does not fight rectangular icons, and mid-tone peach and rose render smoothly on both OLED and LCD.
Apricot Dusk is the closest to a real sky: apricot and peach across the lower half, fading into dusty denim blue. Rose Hour runs from dusty rose to a pale blush centre, with mauve grey at the bottom. Butter Glow is the lightest, pale butter yellow melting into muted apricot pink, and suits a light Home Screen as much as a lock screen. Apricot Dusk, Plum Afterglow and Butter Glow also appear in our 2026 colour trends guide.
Which one for the clock, OLED and time of day
The brightest part of a sunset sits near the horizon, around the middle of the frame on most of these. The iPhone clock is well above it, and every scene here keeps that band of sky quiet.
| If you want | Pick | Clock colour |
|---|---|---|
| A dark, OLED friendly screen | Palm Afterglow, Violet Afterglow, Plum Afterglow | White |
| Maximum warmth in daylight | Last Golden Wave, Peach Reflection, Coral Tide | Dark or white, check the preview |
| One wallpaper for day and night | Apricot Dusk, Palm Afterglow | White |
| A light, calm screen | Butter Glow, Lilac Shore | Dark or tinted |
Choose the clock colour by the sky, not the sand. Velpaper previews each wallpaper with the time in place, so you can check contrast before you save. The rules behind this are in our guide to wallpapers that keep the clock readable.
How to set a sunset wallpaper
- Open the wallpaper page on velpaper.com or in the Velpaper app and save the 2160 by 3840 original, not a screenshot, so wave foam and palm fronds stay sharp.
- On iPhone with iOS 26 or iOS 18, open Settings, tap Wallpaper, then Add New Wallpaper, then Photos, and choose the file.
- Pinch or drag so the horizon sits below the clock, then tap Add and Set as Wallpaper Pair, or Customize Home Screen for a separate Home Screen.
- Touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize and tap the time to switch between a white and a dark clock.
- On a Pixel with Android 16 or 15, touch and hold an empty spot on the Home screen, tap Wallpaper & style, then Change wallpaper, choose the photo, then Preview and Apply.
Apple's steps are in Change your iPhone wallpaper, Google's in Change wallpaper on your Pixel phone. Our iPhone lock screen guide covers clock fonts and widgets in more detail.
Next step: open Palm Afterglow, save the 4K original and set it as your lock screen. For a lighter screen, take Butter Glow.

Questions
Are these sunset beach wallpapers real photographs?
No. Every wallpaper in this collection is an original digital work made by Velpaper in the style of film photography. The palms, the wet sand, the small sun and the soft grain are part of the image rather than the record of a specific beach, and each one was checked by hand before release. That is also why the sun is never oversized and the top of the frame is always quiet: the pictures were composed for a lock screen from the start. The file you download is the 2160 by 3840 pixel original, with no watermark and no text.
Golden hour or blue hour: which makes the better lock screen?
It depends on when you look at your phone. Golden hour wallpapers, such as Last Golden Wave, Peach Reflection and Coral Tide, are warmer and brighter, so they look best in daylight and next to a light Home Screen. Blue hour wallpapers, such as Lilac Shore, Violet Afterglow and Plum Afterglow, are cooler and darker, with lilac and plum replacing most of the peach, and they are easier on the eyes in a dark room. If you want one wallpaper for the whole day, Apricot Dusk and Palm Afterglow sit between the two groups.
Will a bright sunset wallpaper make the clock hard to read?
Only if the brightest part of the sky sits where the clock does. On iPhone the time is in the top fifth of the screen, and every wallpaper in this collection keeps that band calm: open sky with no sun and no palm crown in it. The bright horizon is lower, around the middle of the frame. Match the clock colour to the sky: white on the darker pieces, dark or tinted on the pale ones such as Butter Glow and Lilac Shore. Velpaper shows each wallpaper with the time in place so you can judge the contrast before saving.
Do warm sunset wallpapers use more battery on an OLED iPhone?
A little more than a black wallpaper, and much less than a white one. Every iPhone since the iPhone 12 apart from the SE has an OLED screen, where each pixel lights itself and dark pixels draw less power. The sunset wallpapers here are mostly mid-tone peach, rose and mauve, so they sit in the middle. The difference is small because the lock screen is only on for seconds at a time. If battery matters most, pick the darker ones: Plum Afterglow (#302635), Violet Afterglow and Palm Afterglow keep large areas in deep shadow.
Are the sunset beach wallpapers free?
Browsing and previewing every wallpaper is free on the website and in the apps for iPhone and Android. The 12 wallpapers in this collection unlock after a short optional ad in the app; on the website, if no ad is available, the original downloads for free. There is no account and no subscription, and you get the full 2160 by 3840 pixel original with no watermark. This series is phone only; Velpaper's 4K and 5K desktop wallpapers for Mac and other computers come from other collections.
