Fall iPad Wallpaper: Warm 4K Autumn Picks for Both Ways

Fall iPad wallpapers in warm amber, gold and foggy morning tones, sorted by how they survive rotation, plus free 4K landscape files and iPadOS 26 setup steps.

In short: The best fall iPad wallpaper keeps its warm color across the center, so rotation does not cut it off. Amber Paper Sunrise and Amber Highlands work in portrait and landscape as 2160 × 3840 phone originals, and a free 4K file such as Lattice Glow is better for an iPad in a keyboard case.

A good fall iPad wallpaper keeps its warm color across the middle of the frame, because the iPad shows a different part of the same picture when you rotate it. Amber hills, gold silk and a red maple in a courtyard survive both portrait and landscape; a lone cabin at the bottom of a foggy lake does not. Velpaper wallpapers are 4K originals for phones (2160 × 3840) and desktops (4K, some 5K), and both work on an iPad if you match the file to how you hold it.

Below are the iPad sizes, what rotation does to a phone file, and autumn iPad wallpapers sorted by orientation, from warm amber to foggy mornings, each with one line on why it fits. For phone picks in the same palette, see our fall wallpapers.

Fall iPad wallpaper size and the rotation crop

These are the native resolutions, portrait width by height, for current iPads:

ModelResolution (pixels)Shape
iPad Pro 13-inch (M4, M5)2064 × 27524:3
iPad Pro 11-inch (M4, M5)1668 × 24201.45:1
iPad Air 13-inch (M2, M3)2048 × 27324:3
iPad Air 11-inch (M2, M3)1640 × 23601.44:1
iPad (A16) and iPad (10th gen)1640 × 23601.44:1
iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPad mini (6th gen)1488 × 22661.52:1

Here is what that means for the two kinds of Velpaper files:

  • A 2160 × 3840 phone wallpaper is wider than every iPad held upright, so portrait stays sharp. The iPad screen is squarer than a phone, so iPadOS trims the top and bottom, about an eighth each on the 13-inch models. In landscape you see roughly the middle 40 percent of the height, enlarged to fill the width: by about a quarter on the 13-inch models, much less on the 11-inch ones and the mini.
  • A 4K desktop wallpaper at 3840 × 2160 covers every iPad in landscape without any enlarging. Held upright, only a narrow strip from the middle shows.

The iPad never loses the sides of a phone file, only the top and bottom, so what counts is how high the warm part of the picture sits. Older models and the math are in our iPad wallpaper size guide.

How to set a fall wallpaper on iPad

  1. Open the wallpaper in the Velpaper app on your iPad, or on velpaper.com in Safari, and save the original.
  2. If you downloaded it in Safari, open it from Downloads in the Files app, tap Share and choose Save Image to put it in Photos.
  3. Open Settings, tap Wallpaper, then Add New Wallpaper, then Photos, and pick the image.
  4. Pinch and drag so the hills, the tree or the light sits in the center, then tap Add.
  5. Choose Set as Wallpaper Pair, or Customize Home Screen to give the home screen a blurred or different picture.
  6. Rotate the iPad once. If one orientation cuts off the subject or looks soft, try a file from another section below.

Menu names match iPadOS 26 in English and can differ slightly in later updates. Every other route, including Photo Shuffle, is in how to change the wallpaper on iPad.

Warm amber wallpapers that survive iPad rotation

These phone originals carry their color through the middle band of the frame, the part the iPad shows in both orientations. They are the safest picks if you switch between holding the iPad and propping it up.

Amber Paper Sunrise layers paper-cut hills in orange and rust under a pale amber sun, a low disc with the glow of a harvest moon; the sun sits just above the middle, so landscape keeps its lower half and the hills. Amber Highlands rolls brown grassy hills into a pink haze across the whole frame, so every crop is still autumn slopes. Courtyard Maple puts one young red maple in the middle of a white stone courtyard, and landscape keeps most of its crown. Amber Undertow swirls gold and cream silk through the full frame, warm with no subject to lose. Champagne Gold Strata curves bands of gold glass across the screen, the most minimal pick and calm behind icons.

Portrait only: foggy mornings and moonlight

These keep their subject low in the frame, so they look best on an iPad you hold upright, in a stand or for reading on a cold evening.

A Window in the Fog rolls morning fog over a dark forest and a still lake, with a small cabin near the bottom; landscape keeps the fog and loses the cabin. One Light Home is a gray-green misty lake with one lit window in a cabin at the lower edge, the coziest pick of the set. Lattice Glow is an amber paper screen in a wooden lattice, with the shadow of a maple-like leaf in the lower right. Shoji Moon sets a pale full moon behind translucent paper and a branch shadow, low in the frame. Maple Shadow Wall throws maple-like leaf shadows across a cream wall above white stairs in the bottom corner.

Landscape and keyboard case picks

For an iPad that lives sideways in a keyboard case, use one of these 4K desktop files, which download for free.

Lattice Glow in its wide version spreads leaf shadows over golden paper panels on the left, with brighter window panes on the right. Shoji Moon places the moon disc left of center behind paper with a fine branch shadow, soft enough for a split view. Column Shadow lays one stripe of low gold sun across a stone floor, the look of a late October afternoon. Apricot Noon Hall is a cream wall with one sunlit arch on the left, warm and nearly empty behind the Dock.

Common problems and fixes

  • The cabin or the moon is cut off after rotating. The subject sits outside the middle band. Pick from the warm amber gallery, or keep a portrait-only wallpaper and lock the rotation in Control Center.
  • It looks soft in landscape. A phone file is being enlarged to fill the width, which shows most on the 13-inch models. Switch to a 4K desktop file for landscape.
  • Warm colors look orange or washed out. True Tone and Night Shift change how warm the screen looks. Compare with them off before you blame the file, and download the original again if you saved a preview.
  • The picture is zoomed in further than you framed it. Open the More menu in the wallpaper editor and turn off Perspective Zoom if your version shows it.
  • You want other styles after the season. Our iPad wallpaper collection has calm picks for any month.

Questions

What is the best fall wallpaper for iPad?

One whose warm color runs through the middle of the frame, because the iPad shows a different window of the same picture in portrait and landscape. Amber Paper Sunrise is a strong pick: paper-cut hills in orange and rust under a pale amber sun, with color all the way across the center. Amber Highlands and Courtyard Maple work the same way. If your iPad lives in a keyboard case, use a desktop file such as Lattice Glow, a 4K amber paper screen with leaf shadows that downloads for free.

What size should an autumn iPad wallpaper be?

At least your screen's resolution, with room for rotation. The 13-inch iPad Pro is 2064 × 2752 pixels, the 13-inch iPad Air is 2048 × 2732, the 11-inch iPad Air and the iPad (A16) are 1640 × 2360, and the iPad mini (A17 Pro) is 1488 × 2266. A 2160 × 3840 phone wallpaper stays sharp on every iPad held upright. For landscape, a 3840 × 2160 desktop file covers every model without any enlarging. Small autumn images saved from social media turn soft on a large iPad screen.

Can I use a fall iPhone wallpaper on my iPad?

Yes, if it is a full-size original. A 2160 × 3840 phone wallpaper is wider than every iPad screen in portrait, so it stays sharp there, but iPadOS trims some of the top and bottom because the iPad is squarer. In landscape it shows about the middle 40 percent of the height, enlarged to the screen width, which can look soft on the 13-inch models. Choose one with its color in the center, such as Amber Highlands, and check both orientations after you set it.

Why does my autumn wallpaper look different on iPad than on my phone?

Two reasons. First, the crop: an iPad is squarer than a phone, so it trims the top and bottom of the same file, and in landscape it shows only the middle band. A cabin on a foggy lake near the bottom edge can vanish. Second, color: True Tone and Night Shift shift the screen toward warm tones, which can turn amber and rust a little orange. Pick a wallpaper with its subject in the center, and compare with those settings off before you swap files.
